Mamba has been monitoring the work that the Sebenza Special Units have been doing in the past year. We took a look at Sebenza’s crime statistics for 2008 and compared them to the 2009 statistics, starting in March, when the 6 Sebenza Special Units were implemented... and the results are as follows:
Incidents February & March
16/02 Godfrey Hlahla responded to a panic activation in Simba rd Sebenza. 3 Suspects attempted to hijack client’s wife, her mother & baby. Client ran outside when he heard his wife’s screams & was shot in the leg. The description & direction of the suspects was explained to Godfrey who then pursued and arrested a armed suspect. Stolen SAPS firearm was recovered & client was taken to Arwyp Hospital in Kempton Park.
17/02 Lennox recovered two stolen vehicles during his patrols in the evening of the 17 of February. The first one was in Brabezon Rd and the other one in Major Miller Rd. On both occasions the SAPS were informed and the vehicles were identified as stolen in our area of operation.
28/02 Morris Chaki was patrolling Sebenza Terrace Rd when he was stopped by a client and informed of a theft. Morris arrested the suspect and recovered the aluminium strips found in his possession. Suspect was handed over to the SAPS.
10/03 A guard Prevett Rd pressed his panic button when he saw people on the premises. Howard Mjoka and Andre van Schoor responded. Suspects fled into the Veld when they saw response vehicles. Reactions Officers recovered stolen metal on the railway behind the premises. Client was very happy with the amount of steel recovered!
12/03 A guard at a premises in Isando pressed his panic button after he saw people trying to steal tyres from a truck. Boycie Sambo was dispatched to investigate and Alfred Mathye was called for back up. 3 Suspects were apprehended and handed over to the SAPS.
17/03 At 01:05, a battery was stolen from a truck at a premises in Spartan. Lennox, Gert and Johan responded and on arrival, Lennox arrested the suspect and recovered the stolen battery. Suspect was handed over to the SAPS.
