Red Bin Charity Drive Raises R80 000

On Friday 2 March 2012 the Red Bin Brigade, driven by Mamba Strike Force, handed over a cheque of R40,000-00 to the Edenvale Care Centre. The Edenvale Care Centre ( read their letter here) were due to close their doors because of shortages of funds. With the R40,000 handed over by Mamba, Edenvale Care Centre is now able to stay open.

On Saturday 3 March 2012 Mamba Security handed over another  cheque of R40,000-00 to Little Eden at their annual Fete. The R80,000-00 that was handed over to the Charity Beneficiaries was raised during the 2011 Annual Mamba Christmas Charity Drive which took place on 2 December 2011.

This eventful day and the money raised would not be possible without the help of our community, it’s businesses, it’s residents and it’s schools. Mamba would like to take this opportunity to thank the community and all those who sponsored the Mamba Christmas Charity Drive.

The Red Bin Brigade is a section-21 non-profit organisation, made up of the Retired members of our community who assist Mamba with raising money for our local organisations and feeding schemes. Mamba offers a free service to all the members of the RBB. Anyone looking to join the Red Bin Brigade can contact Mamba on 011 609 0237.

Employees Donate Blood

On Monday 18 July (Nelson Mandela Day) Mamba employees queued up at the Linksfield Blood Donor Centre to donate blood and make their contribution after recent headlines of blood shortages in South Africa.

Good afternoon all,

WE DID IT!

Sincere thank you to all the volunteers that worked at Horwood Farm last Saturday for the immense effort you all contributed to in helping us get ALL 28 cubic meters of compost into the beds by the end of our day.  A fantastic achievement!

Mamba Security sent a work force of 22 which was astonishing and I must make special mention of Veronique who brought almost her entire extended family as well,  from 2 years old to .... more than a little older than 21 years old J.  Sincere thank you for your unfailing support.

We hope to see you all the 2nd Saturday in July for our next clean-up and we give you our assurance, that it won’t be as back breaking next time.

Kind regards
Sharon and Friends

Good day to all volunteers,

I am quite sure that Heather has sent out an email reminding you of our Friends of Horwood Farm day this Saturday June 11, 2011 when we all meet at 9am, and I just wanted to make you aware of a few important points.

A portion of our Ward 18 IDP funds that were allocated to us by the Council was used to purchase compost for the planting beds closest to the parking area.  28 cubic meters of compost is being delivered to Horwood Farm this week and I am really hoping that we will have a bumper turn out of volunteers to help us dig this compost into the beds.  We would be so disappointed if any of the compost was stolen, and as this is always a possibility,  we would like to make as much progress this Saturday as is possible.  If you have a gardener that is available on Saturday to help out then bring him/her along as well.

We have had pinafores made with the wording ‘FRIENDS OF HORWOOD’ on the front and we have some business’ that are prepared to sponsor these. Carol Rodgers has very kindly offered her companies expertise and she will silkscreen all the sponsors names on the back section at her own expense.  BIG THANK YOU for the offer and your ongoing support Carol. (Should you require any silkscreening please support Carol 011453-3965, as well as our other sponsors
when the need arises).

Because we will be working very hard on Saturday I would like to purchase boerewors for our hotdogs instead of the Vienna sausages we have purchased the last two meetings, so PLEASE can you RSVP by Friday so that I know what amount to purchase.  I know there are some volunteers that are vegetarian and I would like to bring ensure that there is food available that is more suitable for you, so please confirm this when you reply.

Please remember to bring a spade or shovel as well as a garden fork.  Although the weather is cold, windy and wet for the next few days, the weatherman has predicted lovely weather for Saturday so remember your garden hats and gloves.

POSTER BUSTERS
Some of you are aware that we started a group called ‘Poster Busters’ with the aim of removing all the illegal signage that is erected on every available pole, electrical box and street sign in our suburbs and town, which Charmaine has very eloquently addressed in the Bedfordview/Edenvale News.   We all find this practice rather irritating and decidedly unsightly, and despite us having done a few sessions of signage removal, as fast as we remove the signage they reappear the following week.  We need to expand into all areas of Edenvale.

We are hoping to get the message through to these offenders that Edenvale is not the area to place illegal signage as it will be removed shortly after it is erected.   In order to achieve this mammoth task we need more volunteers please.

If we could get 3 or 4 teams of 3 people each,  we could make a more noticeable impact in more areas.  First prize would be to have 2 people removing the signs and 1 person driving the vehicle in each area.   Children could also volunteer as they could help by placing the signage into the vehicle travelling behind the poster removers.

All signage is finally sorted, a list prepared for the council to address and finally collected from Heather’s house by the council.

We will be doing a ‘Poster Buster’ afternoon from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday 18th June 2011.  We will meet at Horwood Farm at 2pm where each team will be given a route to follow.

Please RSVP if you can be of any assistance.

Sincere thanks to all of you for your valuable time that you contribute to ensuring our suburb is returned to its former glory.

Kind regards
Sharon Lendrum-Frittelli
