TIPS ON HOW TO AVOID BEING HIJACKED

  • With a few precautions almost all hijackings can be avoided!
  • Effort is required to correct bad habits and enhance good habits, potential risks in order are:
    • driveway
    • street outside driveway
    • intersections
    • freeway on/off ramps
    • parking areas, etc
  • And/or anywhere you are required to stop the car!
  • Criminals often follow targets from busy public places.
  • Check rearview mirrors frequentlv.
    Criminals seek victims who present the lowest risk.
  • Present criminals with an element of risk. Be alert!
  • Criminals want an easy escape route. If possible, have an electric gate.
  • Don't stop too close to the car in front or get boxed in.
  • Wait for your gate to open before pulling into your driveway.
  • Try to always park facing out.
  • Avoid a gradient where possible.
  • Visually inspect your car before approaching.
  • Don't allow yourself to be distracted!
  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times.
  • Plan routes, hijackers look for targets distracted by cellphones!
  • Get in, lock the doors and start the vehicle immediately.
  • Put on seat belt once vehicle is moving.
  • Doors locked and windows closed whenever slowing to a stop!
  • If approached and/or attacked prepare to drive away as quickly & safely as possible. If turning fast, turn with traffic (left)
  • Hoot, scream, blow whistle, attract as much attention as possible! Passengers to do the same
  • Always wear your panic button on a breakable piece of cotton around your neck.
  • Do not park your car on the pavement!
    Do not give your keys to petrol attendants!
  • Maintain your car, keep spares, have enough fuel.
    Avoid driving alone.
  • Ensure that your passengers are not negligent.
  • Never leave children alone in the car, even at gate!
